The Farmhouse

MapleWood Farm is a small family farm in Western Kentucky that has been in our family for 2 generations. Built in the early 1800s our farmhouse was one of the first built in the area. It’s original bricks were made from the clay soil on the property. Through the years, it has seen periods of love and neglect. We are currently in the process of remodeling the old historic farmhouse on the property! You can follow along with the journey @oldfarmhouseimperfections on Instagram!

Old-Time Scotch Collie

We became interested in responsibly breeding Old-Time Scotch Collies (OTSC) by our own quest to find a great “farm dog” to help with the farm chores, protect our goats and chickens, and help herd our chickens into the coop at night. This search recalled to mind a great “farm dog” from childhood, who had some collie-like features, but not all of the bred in “show” features such as the long head or coat that required a high-level of grooming. This disparity between the intelligent and much loved childhood “farm dog” and the now “fashionably” bred AKC Registered Collie puppies available led us to discover the Old-Time Scotch Collie Community and the Old-Time Scotch Collie Association. WE WERE SO EXCITED! We adopted our first Old-Time Scotch Collie (OTSC), Rory, in 2018 and saw just how unique this breed was! From her first day with us she was shadowing us as we walked the farm and had a natural and automatic heel. She works hard to accomplish all of her tasks on the farm, but also makes such a great family companion. She is just as comfortable laying in the living room as she is working the farm. Seeing the difference in Old-Time Scotch Collies (OTSC) and the “fashionably” bred collie, inspired us to help preserve and protect this rare breed of dogs by becoming an Old-Time Scotch Collie (OTSC) breeder. In 2021, we welcomed our first litter of Old-Time Scotch Collie (OTSC) puppies! We knew that we could offer a truly idyllic start to life for our MapleWood Scotch Collies. With free rein of over 200 acres of fields, creeks, quarries, maple trees, and woods our three adult Scotch Collies love working our farm!
